Are you “Relaxer Ready”?
Your stylist has told you at least 375,128 times not to scratch your head before you get a relaxer. Don’t brush it or comb it, and don’t even think about shampooing it! Even though he/she puts enough base on your scalp to protect you, and two other clients for some reason, you STILL burn every time you get a relaxer! Well try these tricks on top of what you already know, and it could be what you’ve needed all along:
DO NOT SHAMPOO at least 72 hours before receiving a relaxer service. This will leave your scalp’s pores open, making you more vulnerable to scalp irritation.
DO NOT CONSUME ANY CAFFEINE at least 24 hours before receiving a relaxer service. This includes soda, coffee, tea, and chocolate. Remember this: EVERYTHING you put into your body comes back out through your hair, skin, and nails. The reaction your “caffeinated scalp” will have to the relaxer will be a very unpleasant one. (I know this from personal experience!)
DO CONSUME PRODUCTS CONTAINING DAIRY – This goes back to remembering that EVERYTHING you put into your body comes back out through your hair, skin, and nails. Dairy products are going to coat or protect the scalp. So, if you need a reason to cheat on that diet, or just want to have a milkshake, you’ve got an excuse!
